Mitchel Demry: I know people in their 60's, who had or have good paying jobs, yet they are STILL RENTING. I don't understand why someone their entire life never decided to own. Someone 29 it's not really too surprising, lots of people especially in their 20's are renting because they can't afford to buy, or people are still deciding where they want to buy. I am a realtor, and I've found some people are afraid to buy, and their fear of the unknown prevents them from buying. I find it sad, because it's actually not scary to own, and provides tax write offs, & not having to deal with a landlord and rent increases, & of course making money from the house going up in value....Show more
Misty Vagle: No. Neither have I.
Ron Keliipio: no but you have the disease of elitism
Josefine Weekey: If people think they might want to move in a couple years, it's wise to rent and not buy. Also, some people don't want to have to mess with maintenance
Patrick Bitsui! : you are merely the more fortunate
Autumn Vacio: Well, you never rented because you lived out of other people's homes: first parents, then girlfriend. And you probably couldn't have bought the home without the gf/wife who already owned her home. Either she's older than you were at 22, or she had help from her parents or an ex husband or she was a teenage rock star, because money does not appear out of thin air. But whatever it was, worked out for you. Now if you have a mortgage, then you're kind of still renting, from the bank. You throw away money in the form of interest paid. In some countries like Norway, most people have a mortgage. In Germany, renting is the norm, and they don't understand why Americans dream of owning. The Chinese save up and buy property for their adult children, preferably in cash. There are cultural and historical reasons, and financial advantages to both owning and renting. As investments go, real estate is generally safer but doesn't give ! you as much returns as stocks....Show more
Patricia Bold! uc: I am not trying to be rude, and some of you have suggested, but am more questioning why some people choose to rent for so long. For example, my friend from University is 29, is a brain surgeon and rents his home. He must be earning upwards of 100K. Another friend works in the same bank as me and went to the same university for the same course as me. We were in the same class, yet he still rents.
Cherlyn Tefera: It's not weird, but you aren't very educated if you can't understand the reasons that some people rent. Owning is neither beneficial nor desirable for everyone.
