Georgia Dees: Yeah, you can't do anything now. Wait til Monday or Tuesday. The first thing you probably want to do is call his insurance company and let them know what happened. You will probably give a recorded statement. They may want to contact him to make sure your stories are straight. Then they will probably send someone out to look at your car and give you an estimate of the cost to repair it. If they don't, you will need to find a repair shop and get an estimate yourself, but they will let you know. After that, you need to find a repair shop (they can probably recommend one if you aren't sure, but you can normally use any one yo! u wish). You take that estimate to them and show them the damage. They will let you know if and when they can fix it. If they are too busy or you just don't like the shop you can take the estimate to another shop. After that, just show up on the appointment day and drop off the car. You might be able to get a rental car from them while your vehicle is being repaired or arrange for other transportation....Show more
Romeo Tinnea: The first thing you will want to do is contact HIS insurance company. If the police report lists the accident as being his fault they will have to pay the damages. If the report finds no one at fault, his insurance company could try to claim it was a "no fault accident" and refuse to pay for damages, at which time you will want to contact your insurance company and let them argue with the other company to decide who will pay. Whenever you are involved in an accident, no matter how minor it seems, you always want to get the police involved to ! write a report or issue a ticket to the person at fault in the! accident. That way it will be clear to every ones insurance companies who is responsible for the cost of repairs.Once his insurace company decides to pay for the damages, they will either send out their own adjuster or have you get estimates from repair shops in your area. They might try to send you to one of their "preferred" repair shops to have the damages fixed, as a claimant you are under no legal obligation to use any shop they recommend. While "preferred" shops usually have to meet minimum standards for equipment and training, they are usually shops that are willing to give the insurance company a reduced rate on repairs in exchange for a greater volume of work from the insurance company.Your best bet will be to find a reputable repair shop that employs technicians who are ASE certified and I-CAR certified. You can search for I-CAR certified shops on their website at I-CAR.com. A shop that is certified by I-CAR as Gold Class will employ the highest trained technicia! ns in the industry. A quality repair shop will also handle most of the negotiations with the insurance company for you. Also, as a claimant, his insurance company should provide you with a rental car to use while yours is being repaired.DO NOT try to have a repair shop inflate an estimate or turn in a higher estimate to try and make money on the accident. That is insurance fraud and will land you in big trouble if found out by the insurance company....Show more
Nadia Crauswell: I dont know what insurance company you have or what state your in. Rules very from state to state. In the state i live in the insurance company recommends what auto repair shop you take it to. You can ask for a different one but the ins company will only approve the use of the cheapest one most likely. Before I call the ins company I would have estimates from other shop that you trust. One other thing you could do is use the highest quote to turn in to your ins company and then take you car to t! he lowest costing repair shop and keep the $ difference. That would onl! y work if you tell the ins company that you will hand all the communicating with the repair shop, and you wont need a rental that is paid for by the ins company....Show more
