Do I need a period after the closed quotation?

Cliff Jacoby: Oh, the joys of Yahoo Answers! Two totally contradictory answers, neither of which bothers to cite a source!@Iris, I don't know about your copy of the Chicago Manual of Style, but mine says you DON'T put a period after this sort of sentence. What does your copy say, Iris? Hmm? Or did you just make this up?...Show more

Ty Kirton: Originally, if this is a dialogue, you start a new line. If its just a quote you putting in an essay then all good. And yes you do need a period, its the end of the sentence ;)

Maynard Reevers: No period after the quotation. The exclamation point ends the sentence.
