In Hip Hop/Rap, what would you describe as wordplay?

Delmer Pectol: "I love you in that jersey dress, such a phat azz, I try to make a move to pass it, ballers running back just to huddle with ya azz miss"-D'Mac...Show more

Erin Arron: Similies, metaphors, just a play on words in general... Eminem does some good word play, you could also check out Hilltop Hoods. They are my favourite group, and they have so many brilliant lines in their tracks!http://www.hilltophoods.com/their lyrics:http://www.hilltophoods.com/lyrics.htmmyspace page:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=us...One of their really cool lines:"Stand on stage accepting a grammy for the most incredible rapping since edible panties"lol...Show more

Alane Antes: WANKSTA

Lawana Neemann: I view the term "wordplay" in rap differently. If I were to say that a rapper engages with wordplay, I would possibly be talking about metaphors, similes, puns, etc. but I also might be talking about a more freewheeling, free association rhyming style whe! re the emphasis is more on the sound/rhythym of the lyrics as opposed to their coherence. If you listen to MF Doom, Busdriver, Aesop Rock, earlier Aceyalone, I would label all of them as taking part in alot of wordplay. They all use metaphors, similes, puns, but they also use words and phrases just for the sound of the particular word/phrase. Alot of the reason why those rappers tend to leave alot of people scratching their heads is because their rhymes aren't particularly coherent - they're imaginative and creative instead. That's just my opinion...Show more

Particia Thorton: LIL WAYNE DOES ALOT OF IT.... CHECK HIM OUTEXAMPLE: "WHO YOU PLAYIN WITWAYNECHILLIN LIKE A SCARECROWLOOKIN FOR SOME BRAIN"- FROM "TOUCH IT OR NOT" BY CAM'RON & LIL WAYNE...Show more
